Ryton 5 a side Tournament

On the 11th February, we took part in the Ryton 5 a side tournament held at Ryton Connexion. Wyken played 4 games against John Shelton, Allesley, Mount Nod and Southfields, the games were quick only lasting 6 minutes so the players had to be on it from the first kick. Wyken got off to a great start winning the first game 2-0 against Southfields, followed by a 1-1 draw with Mount Nod and then another 2-0 win against John Shelton.

After Allesley won all three of their games it came down to the last game to see who would win the group. Wyken needed a win to finish top of the group and get an automatic spot into the finals night, if Allesley won or the game finished as a draw Allesley would get the automatic spot. The game kicked off and within the first 30 seconds Allesley scored. The game then settled with both teams having chances and both goalkeepers making good saves, with a couple minutes left on the clock Wyken were desperate for a goal which came from Zach with a nice finish into the Allesley net to make it 1-1. With seconds left on the clock the whistle was in the referees mouth to end the game until a miscommunication from the Allesley defender and goalkeeper led to Zach being able to sneak in and tap the ball into the net to make it 2-1! The Wyken players then celebrated the referee blowing the whistle for full time which sees Wyken Croft reach the finals night in March. A great effort from all the boys that played and we are all excited to take part in the finals night.
