Sportshall Athletics Competiton

On Wednesday 27th October, we took a number of our Year 5 and 6 pupils to the Alan Higgs Centre to take part in the annual Sportshall Athletics competition, a competition that we have taken part in for a number of years and have always had fun and enjoyed whilst taking part in a competitive event.

On the day we took part in lots of different track and field events competing with four other primary schools.

These events were:

1-1 Lap Relay

2-2 Lap relay

4-1 Lap Relay

6 Lap Relay

Over/Under Relay

Obstacle Relay

Standing Long Jump

Standing Triple Jump

Vertical Jump

Chest Push

Javelin

The competition was scored with 2 points for every position you finish in the event for example, if you finished the event in 5th place you would get 2 points, 4th place 4 points, 3rd place 6 points, 2nd 8 points and 1st 10 points. Wyken did really well in the competition winning a number of the races and field events facing up against very tough opponents. . At the end of the competition, Stuart who is the event organiser for the Sportshall competition called all the schools into the middle of the hall and explained to the children that this heat was one of the closest that has ever happened in the sportshall athletics competition with only a small number of points separating 4th position to 1st. Wyken ended the competition in 3rd place, this was a fantastic effort from our pupils and they all showed massive amounts of resilience and self belief to try and finish in the best possible position in all of the events they took part in
