Football Friendly: Henley Green

On the 14th January, the Year 5/6 boys football team played their first match of the new year in a friendly against Henley Green Primary School. After taking the short walk up to Henley Green Primary School the players took part in their usual warm up lead by Corey which was then followed by a quick team talk from Mr. Brown and Mr. Vernon before the players entered the muddy pitch.

Wyken started excellently with the ball being played around the back from Dexter and the defenders Ryan, Archie and Louie, with Wyken having a lot of the ball in the opening stages this eventually led to a goal after Corey put the ball in the back of the net with a nice finish with his left foot. The game restarted and Wyken still looked to be in control of the game and almost scored again after a great pass from Ben found Calvin in the Henley Green box but was unlucky with his finish as the ball went just wide of the post. Coming towards the end of the half, the game became very even with Henley Green and Wyken taking it in turns to have a go at goal which led to a world class save from Dexter that any professional would of been happy with as the ball was fizzed in to the top corner of the goal Dexter tipped the ball over the bar for a corner. The whistle was blown for half time with the score 1-0 to Wyken Croft. The game restarted and again the game was even but after a couple of minutes the ball dropped perfectly to Calvin from a corner for a tap in to make the game 2-0 to Wyken Croft. After the second goal, Henley Green dominated and Wyken struggled to get the ball out of their own half with Henley Green pressing for a goal and it came after some great skills from the Henley Green player who dribbled through half the Wyken team before putting the ball into the net. 2-1. After the goal, Henley Green continued to dominate with Wyken still struggling to get the ball out of their own half apart from a couple of good counter attacks led by Nathan and Zach. With Henley Green pressing for an equalizer this again led to a brilliant triple save from Dexter in goal keeping Wyken in the lead, not long after Henley Green scored again after the ball fell to their player in the box who blasted the ball into the Wyken goal. 2-2. Wyken restarted the game and were looking for a winner and after a few good attempts from the Wyken players the ball fell to Ryan in the Henley Green half and after dribbling around a number of Henley Green players Ryan calmly slotted the ball into the Henley Green net to make the game 3-2. The game finished with some resilient defending from the Wyken defenders to keep Wyken infront. After the game, the players had their de-brief and the man of the match was awarded to Dexter who kept us in the game on several occasions.
